Keystone Opening Day 2026: Latest Status and Winter Dates

On the first Monday of October, the Keystone Resort homepage still reads "Opening Day, ASAP!" At 164 Ida Belle Drive in River Run Village, Warren Station Center for the Arts has already posted ticket links for a Friday night in November, with doors at 5:30 p.m. and the film at 6.

That shows how Keystone's early winter works. The resort's season start depends on overnight temperatures. The dated events in River Run between Halloween and the solstice come mostly from a separate organization that publishes its schedule months ahead. This year every date in its Kickoff series falls a day or two earlier than it did in 2025.

A start date set by temperature

In its August 18 opening-dates announcement, Vail Resorts gave each Colorado resort on its list a calendar date except one. Breckenridge got November 6 and Vail Mountain got November 13. Keystone got "as soon as possible in October." The release said the resort hopes to be the first in North America to open for the second year running. Bill Rock, president of Vail Resorts' Mountain Division, explained how the company is preparing:

"While no one can predict exactly what Mother Nature will deliver, the possibility of blockbuster snowfall has us feeling optimistic about the winter ahead. And while we'd love to see Super El Niño live up to the hype, we're also taking an aggressive approach to snowmaking to ensure this ski season is one to remember."

Six weeks later, The Denver Post's September 29 roundup of Colorado opening dates still listed Keystone and Arapahoe Basin as undetermined. The Post noted that the two areas traditionally open as soon as they can to claim first in the state. A-Basin's homepage also says "ASAP."

Last year's timeline is the best guide to what happens next. Keystone started snowmaking on Sunday night, October 12, 2025. Thirteen days later, on October 25, it opened as the first resort in North America for the 2025-26 season. A-Basin opened the next day. Keystone's opening session ran from 3 to 6 p.m. under the lights, the first afternoon opening in the resort's history. It covered more than two miles of groomed terrain on Schoolmarm and Silver Spoon. Skiers rode the River Run Gondola up, lapped Montezuma Express and downloaded on the gondola at the end of the evening.

As of this week, the signs are earlier in that sequence. On September 23, A-Basin chief operating officer Alan Henceroth wrote that the fan guns were on the hill and his team was watching the temperatures. The Summit Daily reported the next day that snowmaking could be days away. Neither resort has confirmed in a dated public post that it has started making snow. Until one does, the 2025 gap of roughly two weeks between first snowmaking and opening day is the most useful benchmark on hand.

A calendar set months in advance

Warren Station is not run by Keystone Resort. It is managed by the Keystone Neighbourhood Company, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit founded in 1995 to invest in facilities and events that make the Neighbourhoods at Keystone a four-season community. Its own description says it is "independent of Keystone Resort" and works closely with the resort to serve guests and residents of Keystone and the Snake River Valley.

Because the KNC runs on its own schedule, its fall season was posted in mid-September with fixed dates and ticket prices. The Keystone Kickoff series, a run of ski films and a concert timed to the start of the season, gives a direct comparison with last year. In 2025 the Kickoff ran on November 8, 15 and 22: Warren Miller's "Sno-ciety," a Fuzzheads and Tiny Pockets concert, and a Matchstick Productions film. In 2026, the dates are November 6 and 7, 14 and 21, so each event moves up by a day or two, and the Warren Miller premiere runs for two nights instead of one.

Here is the dated calendar from Halloween through the solstice, combining the resort's own listing with Warren Station's:

  1. October 31 to November 1, Halloween Weekend at Summit House. Free, with a costume contest both days and the season's first rail jam on Saturday.
  2. November 6 and 7, Warren Miller's "Days Off." Two nights at Warren Station. Tickets run $10 to $17. On Friday, doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the film starts at 6. Saturday's program runs from 3:00 to 8:30 p.m.
  3. November 14, Matchstick Productions' "The Way Out." Two showings between 3:30 and 8:00 p.m., with part of the proceeds going to Team Summit.
  4. November 21, Keystone Kickoff Concert. Local bands CB3 and O'Connor Brothers Band play from 6 to 10 p.m., with tickets at $5 to $8.
  5. November 28, Keystone's Winter Carnival and the Lighting of River Run. Free. Crafts, hot chocolate and live music run from 2 to 5 p.m. at Warren Station, and the River Run tree is lit at 5:15.

The Halloween weekend is the only event on that list hosted by the resort rather than at Warren Station, and its rail jam is the first date on the calendar tied to the start of the snow season.

Where the two calendars overlap

Several dates fall on the same weekends. Friday, November 6 is opening night for "Days Off." It is also the planned opening day for both Breckenridge and Copper Mountain on the Post's list. Last year's Warren Miller night on November 8 came one day after Breckenridge's November 7 opening. This year the film and the Tenmile Range openings fall on the same evening.

If Keystone repeats last year's timing, Halloween Weekend would be the resort's first or second weekend of the season. If the snow comes late, the costume contest and rail jam still have fixed dates, and the uncertain one is opening day. The same applies through November. Each Kickoff Saturday is set whether Schoolmarm is groomed or still bare.

November 28 is the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The Winter Carnival describes itself as Warren Station and River Run Village coming together "to welcome the 2026/2027 winter season." Children can write letters to Santa at Warren Station and drop them in the North Pole mailbox beside the Warren Station Christmas tree before Santa visits River Run Village.

Two new places to eat have opened near the gondola since last winter. The Goodz Tavern, with house-smoked American comfort food, and Kinji Sushi opened at Kindred Resort beside the River Run Gondola over Memorial Day weekend. The Summit Daily's July coverage recommended reservations at both. This will be their first early season, and both sit in River Run, the same village as Warren Station.

December, once the season is underway

The December events follow the same pattern of fixed dates.

  • December 10, Pints with Patrol. Free, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Warren Station.
  • December 12, Goods in the Woods Holiday Market. Free, 1 to 5 p.m., with live music from Risky Strings. The vendor list has not been announced yet, and vendor applications are due October 28.
  • December 18, Winter Comedy Night. 7:30 to 10:00 p.m., with tickets from $35 to $40.
  • December 19, Mystic Solstice. 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., with tickets from $45 to $90.

The October 28 vendor deadline is the nearest date on the KNC calendar that calls for action. It falls about three weeks from now and probably before the first chairlift ride of the season. The other near-term date belongs to the resort. Keystone's pass page says prices go up on October 7, two days from today.

Some details are still pending. Keystone's season parking-pass page lists 2026/27 details as "coming soon." No 2026 date has been published yet for the village's Christmas and New Year's Eve events. The tree lighting on November 28 and the market on December 12 are the dated anchors so far. The opening-day announcement will come whenever the temperatures allow.
